Mrs. Salamatu Chakanda is the Deputy Director of Licensing & Compliance of the Commission.
Mrs. Chakanda holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and BA (Hons) Law with Social Policy from London Metropolitan University and Middlesex University, London respectively.
She was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2008 – United Kingdom, later proceeded to the Sierra Leone Law School and called to the Sierra Leone Bar in 2013.
Mrs. Chakanda comes with over a decade work experience as a legal practitioner and has worked in numerous local authorities and private practice in the UK. Mrs. Chakanda, amongst others, has a solid background in Immigration/Property /Child/Family Law where she practiced as Solicitor and Case Worker in the Social Services Department and numerous Law firms in the UK.
Mrs. Chakanda before her appointment as the Deputy Director Legal Affairs in 2015, was License Manager in the Legal Department in 2013 and later rose to the rank of Corporate Secretary in 2014. Mrs. Chakanda as Barrister provides leadership for the provision of cutting edge legal advice and legal solutions to the Commission in the execution of its regulatory mandate.
